Nil Yalter

 Ab-Anbar is pleased to announce its participation in London Gallery Weekend with a special installation work by Nil Yalter. This installation will be in conjunction with a live conversation between the artist and Sacha Craddock (3rd June at 2 pm).

 

The conversation between Yalter and Craddock will be on the occasion of the artist's on-site display of Exile is a Hard Job at the gallery. The talk will focus on this project as well as her artistic practice. RSVP is essential.

 

 Nil Yalter (b. 1938) was born in Egypt and lives and works in Paris. A graduate of Robert College, Istanbul, Yalter’s practice spans various media, including painting, installation, photography, video, and performance. Widely considered A pioneer female video artist in Europe, Yalter seeks to question the male gaze and give a platform to socially marginalised groups through her work. Yalter exhibited internationally in institutions, such as at Kadist Art Foundation, Mumbai; Museum of Modern Art, Rio de Janeiro; Museum Boijimans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam; MAC VAL, Paris; and Museum Ludwig Cologne. Works by Yalter are in many notable public collections, including Tate Modern, London; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; and Museum Ludwig, Cologne.

 

Sacha Craddock (b. 1955) is an art critic, writer, and curator based in London. Sacha is co-founder of Art-School Palestine, member of Abbey Council, and co-founder of the Contemporary Art Award at the British School at Rome, Trustee of the Shelagh Cluett Trust, and President of AICA-UK, the British section of International Association of Art Critics. She was Chair of the Board of New Contemporaries and selection process from 1996 until December 2021. Selected critical writing includes essays on Mark Boulos, Angus Fairhurst, Jose Dávila, Chantal Joffe, Wolfgang Tillmans, Rosa Lee, and Adam Henein, among others. She was the co-founder of Bloomberg Space and its curator from 2002-2011. Her curatorial contribution includes Turner Prize Hull 2017, ‘Strike Site’ at Backlit Gallery, Nottingham 2018, and ‘Here, Now’ at Misk Art Institute 2021. More recently, she is working on a section for this year’s ‘Curated by’ in Vienna.
