Pixelated broken tv images, caused by government satellite jamming, triggered Heydari’s fascination with the moment of glitch. He considers glitch as a visible instance of separation between what an image does, what it is made of, and how it appears to us. He uses acrylic and various palette knives, rollers, and airbrush to create complex, highly detailed surfaces where he can accentuate the significance of tools, material, and technology in the act of representation. Heydari’s solo exhibitions have been showcased in multiple institutions and galleries including but not limited to Ab-Anbar Gallery, Tehran, Iran, the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, Winston-Salem, NC, Haines Gallery, San Francisco, CA, Ethan Cohen Gallery, New York, NY. Heydari lives and works in Baltimore, USA.

For him, mistakes do not exist in the digital medium, which is liberating. He works for potentially six months on a painting, but in the video format He can create a work in six minutes that becomes immediately accessible to an online audience. He explains: “I’m also thinking about how the ultimate place of consumption for art has become the internet, even with my paintings, so working in a digital format allows me to deepen my exploration of that realm. I manipulate the various source material for my videos so that they appear digital native, so that their nature as immaterial, corruptible images is centred. The medium is never taken for granted; you are always aware you are looking at pixels.”
