AB-ANBAR Gallery is pleased to participate in Artissima’s Back to the Future’s special section, with a solo presentation of the American-Italian-Lebanese artist, Douglas Abdell. The booth will focus on Abdell’s Neo-expressionist period from the 1980s where his painting-collages and totem sculptures are a melting-pot of language and visual culture explorations portraying his multilayered identity.
Abdell’s prolific practice came to prominence in the New York art scene in the late 1970s, where he has shown alongside artists including Jean-Michel Basquiat and Louise Nevelson, during the heady period which saw the emergence of street art, block-parties and the hip-hop scene that had a strong influence on his early works.
