Timo Nasseri
Timo Nasseri (b.1972, Germany, Berlin), lives and works in Berlin. He received his diploma in photography from the Lette-Verein, Berlin in 1997. Nasseri began his artistic career as a photographer before making the transition to sculptor in 2004. After travelling to Iran with his father he started to explore the relationship of geometry and Islamic architecture. Combining Islamic and Western cultural heritages, his work is inspired as much by specific memories and religious references as by universal archetypes described by mathematics and language, and the inner truths of form and rhythm. Nasseri’s choice of material ranges from stainless steel to magnets, mirrors, ceramics and wood. Nasseri is an heir to both German rationalism and oriental mysticism: for years, his works drew inspirations from the geometry found in a diverse range of subjects, including quantum physics or the complex organic patterns found in Islamic architecture.
Nasseri's recent solo exhibitions include: All borrow their light, Lawrie Shabibi Gallery, Dubai (2023); Aphel, Sabrina Amrani Gallery, Madrid (2023); I am a sky where spirits live, Taubert Contemporary, Berlin (2022); A Universal Alphabet, Sfeir-Semler Gallery, Beirut (2019); All the letters in all the stars, Maraya Art Center, Sharjah (2017). Furthermore, he has participated in international group shows at Perspek ven. Futurismen. Ref. Marcel Duchamp & Marcel Proust,Mercedes Benz Contemporary, Berlin (2022); Spieglein, Spieglein, Kunstmuseum Heidenheim (2022); Reflections, Museum Konkrete Kunst Ingolstadt (2022); Franziska Furter - Landscape with Landscape, Lullin + Ferrari, Zürich (2021); Drawing Biennale 2021, Drawing Room, London (2021); Epic Iran, Victoria and Albert Museum, London (2021); Reclections, The British Museum, London (2021).
